Levels of Practice

Gentle forms of yoga such as beginner classes and restorative classes focus on individual needs, proper alignment, and gentle breathing exercises. These classes are specifically designed for students with little-to-no experience, and for people working on both chronic and acute physical issues, such as high/low blood pressure, sciatica, migraines, carpal tunnel and arthritis.

Intermediate classes are more demanding, and assume that students have a moderate knowledge of common poses and asana sequencing. These classes may use deeper breathing exercises (pranayama), such as Ujjayi breath or alternate nostril breathing, and build deeper flexibility, greater strength and enduring stamina.

Open classes are available for students of all levels, and focus on alignment in the themed poses and/or challenging sequences. These classes often move from modifications of a pose (with props) for beginners through to full asanas for the intermediate or advanced students, and are perfect for individuals looking to explore their own levels of fitness.

Private sessions are perfect for both beginners seeking to learn asanas and knowledgeable yogis striving to deepen their practice. One-on-one attention gives you the greatest benefits of a yoga session, and can be customized to focus on your specific needs and goals. Because these classes are designed specifically for you, they are also the best option for individuals working with more serious physical and mental challenges, such as osteoporosis, herniated disks, glaucoma, neck injuries, ADD and clinical depression.

Workshops are often longer sessions that focus on complete physical rejuvenation and peaceful meditation. Carolyn has co-constructed and led workshops that combine heat-building asana with restorative and opening poses, and shiatsu massage or aromatherapy. Updates on all workshops will be included on the class schedule page.
